Plusieurs figures républicaines, dont des candidats potentiels à l'élection présidentielle de 2012, ont accusé jeudi le président Barack Obama de trahir l'allié israélien, après son discours sur le Moyen-Orient.
«Le président Obama a jeté Israël sous le bus», a estimé l'ancien gouverneur du Massachusetts, Mitt Romney, l'un des candidats potentiels les mieux placés pour l'investiture républicaine pour l'élection de 2012.
Selon lui, le président a «manqué de respect à Israël», en se prononçant pour la première fois jeudi en faveur d'un État palestinien sur la base des frontières de 1967, au risque d'un choc frontal avec ses alliés israéliens à la veille d'une rencontre avec le Premier ministre Benjamin Netanyahu.
«Envoyer un signal aux Palestiniens selon lequel les États-Unis vont exiger davantage de notre allié israélien, après l'accord de l'Autorité palestinienne avec l'organisation terroriste Hamas, est un désastre en perspective», a estimé pour sa part Tim Pawlenty, un autre candidat potentiel à l'élection de 2012.
Le sénateur républicain Mark Kirk qui a parlé de «virage» contre Israël, a déclaré à la presse: «je pensais qu'il commençait à se tourner du côté des Israéliens, mais ce discours m'a beaucoup déçu».
Le numéro deux de la majorité républicaine à la Chambre des représentants, Eric Cantor, a rappelé pour sa part dans un communiqué que «trois guerres ont été lancées contre Israël avant l'établissement de nouvelles frontières en 1967».
«En gardant la pression, et donc l'attention sur Israël, le président ne fait que donner à l'Autorité palestinienne plus de motivations pour poursuivre son jeu inutile qui consiste à éviter les négociations et à ne pas mettre un terme au terrorisme», a estimé M. Cantor.

Finally, the leopard has shown his spots. President Obama’s speech on Mideast issues revealed his true feelings, the underlying premise on which he bases his worldview.
He is pro-Islam and anti-Jew. He is pro-Palestine and anti-Israel.
Dumping American support for Israel was to be expected from one who was nurtured in an atmosphere of liberal, anti-Christian, anti-American, anti-Constitution indoctrination at his Chicago “church” and during his childhood education.
Our forsaking Israel will just hasten the demise of the United States (see Genesis 12:3).
